67% Of Japanese Consumers Don’t Plan To Buy 3D TVs

Over two thirds of Japanese consumers say they aren’t planning to buy a 3D TV for their home, according to a recent survey of 8,957 punters. The 67.4 per cent in question said they were turned off by 3D glasses, the high cost of televisions and a lack of content, Kakaku.com found (via Reuters ).

Casual Gamers Also Interested In 3D – Study

Interest in 3D gaming is widespread, spanning core and casual game audiences, but consumers also harbour concerns about the technology, according to a new study from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). The US study – 3D Gaming: Entertainment’s Next Dimension – found that 64 per cent of those interested in 3D gaming were “avid” gamers, while 35 per cent of those interested were “casual” players. read more

News: Majority of schools think games consoles aid education

Research conducted by the British Educational Suppliers Association (BESA) has found that the majority of schools think that access to games consoles is beneficial to primary children’s education. In a survey of 406 primary schools carried out to determine attitudes to technologies such as games consoles, phones and computers, it was found that three quarters of teachers thought that home access to educational games consoles such as the Nintendo DS could be helpful to a child’s educational development. Internet access at home was identified as the most beneficial technology however, while access to mobile phones split opinion with 39 per cent saying that children shouldn’t have access to their own phone outside of school and 29 per cent saying an ideal situation would be all children having access to a mobile

NPD: Portable Gaming Increasing Among Children

Portable gaming is on the up among children, according to a new study by the NPD Group. The market research firm’s latest Kids & Consumer Electronics report found that 44 per cent of US children aged 4-14 use a portable gaming system, up eight per cent since NPD first conducted the study in 2005.

News: Chinese market grows 35% in 2009

The online games market in China grew by 35 per cent to a net worth of $3.9 billion in 2009, according to a new report by consulting firm Pearl Research. Excerpts from the new study “Online Games Market in China” include a predication that the Chinese online market will exceed $6 billion by 2012. The total number of Internet users in China stood at 384 million by the end of 2009, with a 29 per cent penetration rate.

Analyst: 3DS Announcment Will Hamper DSi XL

Nintendo Japan may have hampered sales of the DSi XL with its untimely announcement of the 3DS, according M2 Research analyst Billy Pigeon. Pigeon believes that the Japanese announcement, made only weeks before the release of the DSi XL in the US, will kill a sizeable amount of demand as gamers avoid buying into a handheld they think will be obsolete soon.
