If you just can’t deal with Zelda as a side-scroller, good news: Zelda II: The Adventure of Link has been remade in 3D! Credit goes to one Michael A. Johnston, who designed this fan remake as a Unity-based game that you can play right in your browser. Zelda II FPS is an impressive feat, combining authentic 8-bit textures with brand new 3D models of all the creatures and environments.

News: GameStop backs Online Pass

Specialist retailer GameStop has said that it fully backs new publisher initiatives to charge consumers of second hand games for additional content and features such as online play. Speaking to investors following yesterday’s record financial results, the company said Project $10 has not impacted its sales of used games, and it believes it can help educated consumers unaware that downloadable content exists for their games

Natal game ‘River Rush’ revealed by film writer James Gunn

What is Project Natal’s ” River Rush ” game, you ask? Well, it sounds an awful lot like Wii Sports Resort ‘s canoe-paddling game, albeit minus the whole “physical controller” thing. Hollywood writer James Gunn ( Dawn of the Dead , Slither ) got to demo the game at a media preview held by Microsoft recently in Los Angeles, where the company was showing off its latest consumer offerings — from Project Natal to the Courier to Halo: Reach (Gunn says he “was slaughtered instantly and numerous times by the Microsoft employees playing when they’re supposed to be working” of Reach ) — and couldn’t help but share his feelings about the experience with the world via his blog .

News: Used game sales "deceptively misleading" at GameStop, claims lawsuit

US retail giant GameStop has been accused of “deceptively misleading” customers over access to free downloadable content offered as part of EA’s Project Ten Dollar initiative. First reported by website IGN, the lawsuit claims that GameStop has failed to warn customers that used games do not allow access to downloadable content intended only for the original purchasers. The original plaintiff in the case is James Collins, who purchased a used copy of Dragon Age: Origins but could not access the additional free downlodable content, which requires a one-time use access code

News: Starbreeze and EA cancel project

The Chronicles of Riddick developer Starbreeze Studios has confirmed that one of its projects with Electronic Arts has been cancelled. The game was in the pre-production phase according to the developer. EA signed Starbreeze to work on a game based on the Bourne franchise a year ago, after it picked up the rights to the action series from Vivendi.

News: R&D Tax Credit change can benefit developers – Sheridans

While yesterday’s Pre-Budget Report yielded no specific mention of support for the videogames industry, there was one amendment included in the full document that could have a significant benefit to developers in the UK. The R&D Tax Credit system will be changing to remove the requirement for applicants to own the intellectual property being worked upon, which theoretically means that companies not solely working on ‘culturally British’ developments are entitled to apply, says Sheridans’ Alex Chapman.

Microsoft: Natal Represents A Giant Leap For TV

Marc Whitten, general manager of Xbox Live, expects Project Natal to “be the largest leap of TV experience since the remote control”. “I don’t believe we are currently in the golden age of the television or the golden age of the game console or the golden age of the internet; frankly, five years from now I don’t know that you’ll be able to tell the difference between those worlds,” Whitten said the Streaming Media West show, according to Yahoo Tech . read more
