Sega defeats confusion over Vanquish release date: Oct. 19 in North America

The European version of Vanquish is no longer alone in having an official release date . Sega of America announced that Shinji Mikami’s new shooter will ship to North American stores on October 19. Just in time for Halloween — look out for the inevitable trend of homemade, spark-spewing robot suits at this year’s parties

StarCraft 2 getting 3D support post-launch

While StarCraft 2 may benefit from a “robust new 3D graphics-rendering engine,” we didn’t know until recently that the game would be receiving a post-launch patch enabling that other kind of 3D (read: the “needs glasses” kind). In an interview with IGN at a South Korean media event — where, no joke, a StarCraft 2 logo-emblazoned Korean Air plane was unveiled — production director Chris Sagaty explained, “We will be releasing 3D in the first few months, for those Nvidia cards and screens that support it.” For what it’s worth, an Nvidia rep also told IGN that it’s “optimising for all systems,” so that the 3D support would work on as many systems as possible

Verbinski and co. trying to trim BioShock movie budget

News: EA petitions against Edge Games

Electronic Arts has petitioned the US Patent & Trademark Office to cancel a number of trademark registrations held by Tim Langdell’s Edge Games, Inc. Langdell has become infamous for attempting to assert ownership of the word “edge”, targeting companies big and small – from iPhone developer Mobigame to Future Publishing’s Edge magazine. A cease and desist order was first filed against EA in 2007, due to the game Mirror’s Edge.

Preview: League of Legends, Season One

Riot Games’ League of Legends has been winning accolades and fans since it released last year for a few different reasons. It’s a highly polished version of Defense of the Ancients , the company has supported the game with continuous updates and new content, and oh yeah — it’s a free-to-play title . Lately, Riot has been working on a major update they’re calling “Season One,” designed to make the game a little more compatible with competitive play, as well as implement some of the most requested features for the game.

Preview: Super Meat Boy

Super Meat Boy could become our newest addiction. Microsoft and developer Team Meat brought the Xbox Live version to E3, and we thoroughly enjoyed beating levels at the expense of the game’s hero. If sacrificing one’s body to rescue a fair maiden held hostage by a fetus sounds like a fun time (and it certainly should), this downloadable game should make it onto your most wanted list.

Mizuguchi: Child of Eden to support standard controllers

Tetsuya Mizuguchi’s latest music-driven “synesthesia” shooter, Child of Eden , made for an exciting kickoff to Ubisoft’s pre-E3 2010 press conference . We caught up with the Rez creator following the event to chat about the his Kinect title, and found out that Microsoft’s new motion-tracking tech actually won’t be required to play. Mizuguchi answered in the affirmative when we asked if Child of Eden can be played using a standard controller, also confirming that players will experience Rez -like controller vibration synced to the game’s music
