News: Activision launches own independent games contest

Activision is calling for entries to its new Independent Games Competition, offering development assistance – as well as prestige – to the winning indie developers. Round one of the contest runs from today until August 31, whereupon the first place winner will be awarded $175,000 and the runner up $75,000

NPD: Full 2009 Console Sales Revealed

The NPD Group has provided us with full year 2009 console sales data for the US market. Nintendo platforms were well ahead of the competition, with DS and Wii hitting 11.22 million and 9.6 million sales respectively. Microsoft’s Xbox 360 sold 4.77 million units, narrowly beating PS3’s 4.33million sales

News: PS3 slim outsells competition in Australia

Sony has sold over 60,000 slim PlayStation 3′s in Australia since the model was introduced on September 3. According to the company, the console has been outselling rival hardware from Nintendo and Microsoft during the period, with Sony about to kick off a new promotion to further boost sales.
