Zynga hires new CFO, Vranesh becomes chief accounting officer

For those of you keeping a diligent collection of Zynga executive trading cards, that 2009 Mark Vranesh as CFO card is about to become worth a whole lot more — the social game company has just hired on Dave Wehner as its new CFO, pushing Vranesh to the chief accounting officer position. Vranesh’s new position will have him reporting to the new CFO.

Platform Holders Investigating Factory Deaths

Nintendo, Sony and Apple are among the companies investigating working conditions at Foxconn, a Taiwanese electronics manufacturer that runs the largest factory in the world. Ten employees at the company’s giant complex in Shenzhen, China, which employs around 350,000 mostly migrant workers, have committed suicide over the past few months. Foxconn assembles a wide range of consumer electronics including PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, iPhone and iPad, and many of its major clients are concerned that their images could be tarnished by the recent deaths

News: Advisory body recommends digital focus for Scotland

The Scottish Digital Media Industry Advisory Group has unveiled a strategy which it believes would result in the country’s revenues from the digital sector doubling in the next two years to GBP 6.3 billion. The body, chaired by Channel 4 exec Stuart Cosgrove, has submitted proposals to significantly enhance Scotland’s global reputation in the digital industries – including the videogames business – which have been welcomed by Scottish Enterprise. “Many of the simple things we do every day are being transformed by digital technologies – from online news and digital photography, to music downloads, multiplatform television and social networking,” said Cosgrove.

News: Future Publishing talks online content charges

Videogame and speciality magazine publisher Future Publishing has discussed its ongoing experiments with paid-for online content; including paywalls, exclusive content for magazine buyers and free content supported by paid-for archives. “We’re experimenting in small places right across the portfolio, because we don’t have the answer yet,” said CEO Steve Spring in an interview with website Brand Republic.

News: Microsoft blames "unprecedented demand" for Sky Player problems

Microsoft and Sky have said that consumers demand is to blame for the service being pulled from Xbox Live on the same day it launched. The companies apologised for the delay, and intend to roll-out the movie and TV viewing service in stages to avoid similar problems. “Sky Player on Xbox 360 launched on Tuesday 27th October and was met with phenomenal demand, with many tens of thousands of customers attempting to sign up within the first hour of launch,” said the companies in a statement.
